President’s Message

Charles Flum - President

Humans are social animals. We love to be in groups where we get to know other people. One such group, of course, is NJC. We have made a special effort here too, as said in The King and I “getting to know you”. When the Rabbi or Jane open services, the first order of business is for congregants to greet each other, particularly those they do not know. The Oneg is another time we interact with each other. Our unique (as far as I know) Flamingle is designed so we get to know each other better. When I ask new members why they joined, it is because of the people. All this getting together is great, but there is a lack. The lack are those congregants who belong to NJC, but we never see. I urge you to come to services or any of the many activities. You will find camaraderie like I have never experienced in any other synagogue, big or small. This is the warmest, friendliest, most caring group of people it has been my privilege to know. Here are some of the activities you can do to meet these wonderful people. Of course, services. Since these are nearly every week Sept. to May, you have plenty of opportunities to pray and to interact with others. Six times a year Rabbi Herman conducts lifelong learning on various topics. These are always stimulating and thoughtful. Flamingle occurs just about monthly. We have done various activities. Tell a funny story about yourself. Trip to the Holocaust Museum. Picnic lunch where we played games. Miniature golf. Upcoming is the congregational seder on April 22. All are invited. Details to come. So come, be social and get the most out of your belongings.
