NJC Board Suspends In-person Friday Service
Returns Friday Worship to ZOOM and YouTubeLive

Saturday Morning Service Remains in Person on UU Patio

After a lengthy discussion about pandemic safety at a special meeting Dec. 27, the NJC Board of Directors voted unanimously to suspend in-person Shabbat Evening services and return to streaming via ZOOM and YouTubeLive during January and February.

However, the monthly Shabbat Morning Torah service will continue in person outdoors on the UU patio. The board decided that the outdoor venue would be safe enough for in-person attendance, and that any member who wants facial protection should feel free to wear a mask.

The action came after continuing reports of unprecedented growth in the number of infections by the Omicron variant of the COVID-19 virus. The board noted the threat the virus poses to a congregation that is particularly vulnerable to infection, even among members who have been fully vaccinated and boosted.

At its February and March meetings, the Board will revisit the issue of the appropriate venue for services and make a decision that will best protect the health and safety of NJC’s members.

Many of us are deeply disappointed by the return to mostly virtual services. Unfortunately, the course of the pandemic dictates the venue. When it is safe for us to return to in person services, rest assured that we will do so.

As always, should you have any questions or want to express your concerns, please feel free to contact any of the Board members/
